Is The Paleo Diet The BEST Weight Loss Diet ?

Maybe you’ve tried counting calories or “points”.

Maybe you’ve bought some diet system where all of your meals were prepackaged for you.

Maybe you’ve tried some extreme borderline starvation plan in an effort to lose weight.  And none of it worked for you.

Doesn’t it make sense to eat the foods that we had to eat before the advent of technology?  And I’m including the capability to mass produce grains and convert them into edible forms such as bread and pasta as technology.

Before we had agriculture, before we had pots and pans, and way before we had supermarkets with brightly colored boxes of sugary cereals beaming from the shelves, we ate only what we hunted and gathered.  If we couldn’t eat it raw or cooked over an open flame with a pointy stick, then we didn’t eat it.  And that is why in my experience the #1 weight loss diet consists of lots of fresh vegetables, lean meats, fish, and eggs, some fruit and a small amount of nuts.

Eating in this manner is often called the Paleo Diet.  I have yet to see anyone stick to this diet and not lose weight.  And time and time again, I also see clients get stronger and faster when they stick to this diet.

But sticking to the plan is what proves challenging to many people.  There are constant temptations of donuts in the office and government issued food pyramids touting the benefits of grains.  Below are a few questions that often arise when someone considers what is in my opinion the #1 weight loss diet.

Is this a low carb diet? No.  You can get all of the carbohydrates your body needs from lots vegetables and fruit.  Sure, you will likely be consuming carbohydrates at a level that is lower that you are used to, but not at a level so low that your body will not have an energy source.

Do I have to count calories? No.  You do have to control your portion size on some items, especially nuts, if you are trying to lose weight.  But other items, like green leafy vegetables, you can eat as much as you like.

Why can’t I eat grains? That can become a pretty detailed answer, but I’ll give you the nutshell version. . . The consumption of grains leads to your body storing glycogen in the liver and muscles.  As long as there is this supply of glycogen, your body will use it as its preferred energy source.  Which means it will not use body fat for energy – which means you won’t lose weight.

Won’t I get bored eating like this? Not if you use some creativity in the kitchen.  There are plenty of ways to add flavor to your food without using sauces and dressings with tons of added sugar and dairy.  Olive oil, vinegar, and just about any herb or spice you can name can all be used to create delicious meals.

Isn’t it time consuming to eat like this? Only if you want it to be.  A little planning and preparation on a Sunday can set you up for a week of healthy meals.  Some tricks that I use when I’m especially pressed for time are buying pre-cut vegetables and using canned tuna as my primary protein source.

The bottom line is that you have to try it yourself to see how it works.  But you have to give it a solid month with no cheating to be able to give what is in my opinion the #1 weight loss diet an honest evaluation.  For more information on the paleo diet, I recommend you checking out the resources below…

I’ve been on this eating plan for about 6-7b months. I have lost 70 lbs. I cheat every now and then and when I do I gain weight right away. But, I know I can go back on and lose it again. I love eating this way. I love coming up with my own recipes. And cooking them is always fun. I really, truly enjoy eating this way. I found out about this diet from an ad, oddly enough. Usually, ads are nothing but hocus pocus to me. When I clicked on ” eat like a caveman” and read about the book,”The Paleo Diet” by Loren Cordain I was really intrigued. I have always felt that I should be eating the way my Ojibwe ancestors ate, so I decided to order this book. It was around $20-$25, So I thought, “What the heck, I’ll buy it and try”. I ended up become a master of buy-n-try. I am going to eat this until I die. It’s my new way of life. I hope more of my people try this out. The high rate of Diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and obesity among my people is startling and scary. Those numbers are sure to decline if more of us eat in this manner. Thank you for time and have great life on the paleo diet.
