Hey there, Vic here and lately I’ve been doing something that I don’t do very often – eating out. And I’ve been doing it as an experiment to see what meals I could find that would be most compatible with the 31 Day Fat Loss Cure. I also did my best to go to restaurants that are national chains or otherwise have a large presence. If you don’t have one of these restaurants in your area, I’m sure you have something comparable. With that being said, check out these 4 restaurant meals that will not blow your diet:
1. Bob Evan’s: 2 eggs scrambled, an order of bacon, a side cup of fruit, and black coffee. Bob Evan’s is a “home style” breakfast place, but they also serve a variety of lunch and dinner options. I like that you can order breakfast anytime they are open – this meal of eggs, bacon, and fruit is one of your better options.
2. Champps Americana: Grilled steak salad with romaine lettuce, tomatoes, grilled peppers, and red onion. Champps is a sports bar themed restaurant known for it’s huge portions. The salad pictured below usually comes with home fried potatoes and blue cheese, but I told them to leave that stuff off. I also requested the dressing on the side and only used a few drops.
bd’s Mongolian Grill: Stir fry chicken and shrimp with broccoli, peppers, onions, and carrots. I’ll admit it, this is my favorite place to eat out when I’m trying to get lean. You pick your meat (large variety of seafood, poultry, and beef available) and all of the veggies you can stack in a bowl. Then you give your bowl to the griller and they cook it for you. And the portion is large enough that you can take half of it home and actually get two meals out of it. Just be sure to skip the rice, pasta, and tortillas that are all options with your meal.
Chipotle Mexican Grill: Salad with romaine lettuce, pork, grilled peppers, onions, tomatoes, hot salsa, and guacamole. This was probably my least favorite option of the four meals – it was just too damned salty for me. Chipotle is known for their huge burritos and even the salad option was pretty big. Be sure to skip the beans, rice, cheese, and sour cream if you are going with the Chipotle salad option.
So there you have it – four different options for eating out without blowing your diet. Remember, anytime you go to a restaurant YOU are the customer so don’t be afraid to ask for certain items to be left out of your meal or substituted with extra vegetables.

Vic,
Great article, thank you!
I’ve been using lemon juice as a salad dressing for a couple of years now. I know it doesn’t sound appealing at first, but it really brings out the flavor of the lettuce and vegetables. I’m hooked!

So glad you mentioned BD’s. That, too, is my favorite place to eat. I also love Panera and Q’Doba (which is WAAAAY better than Chipotle, in my opinion.)
At Panera, I like the You Pick Two with the apple chicken salad and the black bean soup. Get the apple as your side (not chips or bread) and ask them to cut it up on your salad.
At Q’Doba, I always get the naked grilled veggie burrito.
I live in Louisville Ky, which is known for it’s amazing local restaurants. Many of them offer local produce and meat and a lot of organic. I am very spoiled here.

We don’t have any of these in the UK. However, I’ve ordered grilled breakfasts (sausage, bacon, eggs and toast) in several resaurants/ cafes and all have been happy to swap toast out for fresh tomatoes.
