5 Recipes For A Healthy Breakfast

We’re constantly told to never skip breakfast.

To a point, I agree that breakfast is a necessary, but not for nutritional reasons.

Instead I’ve noticed that eating a good breakfast sets me up to think positively and make better decisions for the rest of the day. If I’ve eaten a healthy breakfast, the rest of my meals are healthy as well.

Breakfast doesn’t have to be hard, though. Here are 5 healthy menu options that will help you get your day started in a health way.

1. Fruit Smoothies

A smoothie works well if I train at home before I leave for the workday. I don’t use packaged powders, or odd recipes, though. My general recipe is 4 ounces of milk, water, or juice and a banana or some berries.

Here are some of combos that have worked well:

- Blueberry with banana and pineapple: Begin with frozen pineapple and blueberries, along with one banana, and simply add your choice of orange juice, milk or water.

- Strawberry and banana: Combine 8 frozen strawberries and add a splash of orange juice, water or milk.

Be sure to make your smoothie at home, where it’s cheaper and healthier.

Keeping a stock of frozen fruit means you’ll always have the ingredients for this healthy breakfast. I don’t recommend the smoothies at “smoothie shops,” as they’re heavy on sugar and premade mix ingredients.

2. Nuts and Fruits

When I’m trying to lean up, I tend to turn to this breakfast again and again. Instead of eating one meal, I will graze here and there all morning. Apples are a requirement, and I often eat 3 or more by the time the day is through, but I also enjoy melons, pears and bananas.

Almonds and walnuts because are easy to find raw, and are quite portable. Stick to strict morning diet of only fruits and nuts for a week, and watch the great things it does for your health!

3. Dinner – Have dinner for breakfast!

Try something new—don’t stay locked into the given breakfast menus! If you can eat it for dinner, you can eat it for breakfast! Steak and broccoli? Grilled chicken and a tossed salad? Sure! Viewing food simply as fuel for your body opens up all your options!

4. Scrambled Eggs with Veggies

For those with time to cook in the morning, eggs with vegetables scrambled in is the way to go. First, sauté vegetables in a pan with olive oil, then add beaten eggs, including the yolks, and scramble. What an “eggs-cellent” recipe!

5. Omelet a la Leftovers

Since so many like eggs as a part of their morning, this is another great option. Leftovers from your previous nights’ dinner often give you a buffet of options to fill an omelet.

Try that leftover stir fry, or put your chicken and vegetables into an omelet with a little salsa or avocado for southwest flavor.
