Does Green Tea Help With Weight Loss?
by Vic Magary – Former ARMY Soldier & Author of The 31 Day Fat Loss Cure

Almost every afternoon I have a cup of green tea and a small piece of dark chocolate.
It’s the perfect little break, especially when I’ve been staring at my computer all day and I hit that mid-afternoon slump.
From time to time you’ll hear about green tea having the ability to help you lose weight. This is supposed to be due to some thermogenic effect on the body from the ingestion of green tea. Is this true? To be honest, I have no idea and I really don’t care.
What I do care about is that green tea has a taste that I enjoy and it has zero calories. And unlike diet soda or zero calorie sports drinks, I can pronounce all of the ingredients in my little bag of green tea. It has some caffeine (much less than coffee) for when I feel my energy lagging a bit, and it’s also available in caffeine-free if I want to enjoy the taste without the boost. Hot or cold, green tea is one of my favorite beverages.
But you want to know if green tea works for weight loss. . .
It might give you a little edge in your weight loss quest if your diet and training are already good. What green tea will not do is erase your dietary transgressions. If you think you can eat a plate of pasta for lunch with no ill effects on your waistline because you’ve been drinking green tea three times per day, you will be disappointed.
If you think the cup of green tea will cancel out the accompanying donut, you are mistaken. If you want to use green tea specifically to aid weight loss, you have to consider it a supplement. I’m not a fan of most supplements (fish oil and a multi-vitamin are the only ones I recommend), but when a supplement is used it can only be effective if the rest of your fat loss program is consistently top notch.
Green tea is not a short cut to weight loss.
Remember, there are no shortcuts to weight loss. Nothing is going to replace the consistent application of a diet based on real food complimented by a regimen of intense exercise when it comes to losing weight. But the green tea certainly won’t hinder your fat loss efforts. Just be sure to drink it because you enjoy the taste, not because some think it to be a weight loss “magic potion”.
