How To Give Up Junk Food – For Good!
by Vic Magary – Former ARMY Soldier & Author of The 31 Day Fat Loss Cure
You love the salty and the crunchy. The sugary and the sweet.
And you love the endorphin high and satiety that is sure to follow a drive-thru indulgence. But you know these dietary diversions are not going to get rid of your belly fat. And beyond vanity, you know they are eroding your health.
You know you should stop, but will power alone is not cutting it. Below are a few suggestions that have proven successful for my clients and myself when you need to replace the junk food with some “spunk food”.
The Crunchy. Missing the crunch of potato chips, corn chips, or any other chip that comes in a brightly colored bag? Try replacing them with crunchy fruits and vegetables. Apples are my go-to solution for this. They require zero preparation and are easy to transport – grab it and go for all of your crunchy cravings. Other good options are celery, carrots, thickly sliced cucumber, nuts and bell peppers.
The Sweet. If you are really aching for a sugar fix, allow yourself a serving of some of the sweeter fruits. Bananas are a good one to start with. Other options are cantaloupe, pineapple, and watermelon. But do not make these the focus of your fruit servings; I have seen clients halt their weight loss by overindulging in the sweeter fruits. But a banana or pineapple once per day can really cure your sweet tooth.

The Full. Some people tell me that they never feel full on the 31 Day Fat Loss Cure diet. I always wonder if they’ve really ever tried to eat an entire head of broccoli when they tell me this. . . No, you do not have to eat an entire head of broccoli.

But increasing your vegetable portions during meals is a good first start. Another good step is increasing your foods rich in healthy fats such as avocados, olive oil, and nuts. But be careful with the nuts as they are pretty high in calories. Make sure you limit yourself to a SMALL handful per serving.
Know this, accept this, and love this: change is likely to be challenging.
If it was easy, everyone would be walking around with six-pack abs and a sexy waistline. But you CAN meet the challenge. And when the obstacle of junk food craving presents itself, overcome it with crunchy fruits and veggies, sweet melons and bananas, and increasing your healthy fat intake.

Hi Vic,
Not sure you got my previous email asking if it is OK to add a touch of RAW HONEY to your hot tea. Also wanted to know if attending my Gym’s “Body Pump class” twice a week along with doing my 90 minute Hot Yoga class also twice a week along with the diet would be OK. The Body Pump class is an intense 55 minute mostly body weight exercises set to music all of which are part of your program. (I did the first class on Sunday ,it’s a hell of a work out)
Thanks for letting me know
Mike

The raw honey shouldnt hurt – as long as youre not having 5 a day.
Your workouts should be fine – I would prefer you do the ones I have in the manual, but if you’re committed to the classes, then do those…

I’m 68 years old, fractured my ankle on both sides (fibia and Tibia) crossing a stream with granddaughter and friends. lost use of left foot for 8 moths. large belly fat appeared. very un-fit. Thought I had good diet, 5 a day fruit and steamed vegitables. recenty Phisio fix my ankle, ligament snapped back into place, Just started power walks again, only 1 mile a day so far. Cut out all carbs and 90% dairy. Can not do even 1 pressup on floor, but working from table. 10 at a time.
Your comprehensive in valuable information I am sure will work for me.
I have tried a no food at all diet, rice diet, a potato diet a veg only diet all to no avail.

Vic: NOTHING beats FRESH pineapple and strawberries! Remind folks, though, that the CANNED or FROZEN versions are MORE expensive, contain ALL KINDS of processed sugars and are (almost) as bad for you as a candy bar. PS You’re the first to know: this AM, I hit a BMI of 24.3 — first time IN MY LIFE I’ve not been clinically obese!

I wouldn’t count out frozen produce options altogether… When certain fruits are out of season, you can still find frozen versions for a decent price, without added sugars (I’m mostly referring to store brands on this). I agree with using caution with canned versions, but again, as long as there’s no added sugar syrups, you can still work fruit into your diet without breaking your budget or your belt buckle. Just be sure to read labels, compare prices and know what’s in season.

I’m enjoying your tips and posts. Started your 31-day in early Dec, but can’t do even one pushup so i’m using a wall. I can do plank, so I do some of those with yoga moves. Can’t do the jumps, have a bad ankle and they also killed my knees. Have not done any exercise except yoga, swimming and golf for 4 weeks as we had a lot of company over the holidays. but I feel fitter, clothes are looser at the waist even though my scale says no weight loss.
I’m 67, not badly overweight but trying to lose the belly fat. Have no trouble with the diet, it’s pretty well what I eat anyway except I used to eat cereal in the mornings with lactose-free milk, don;t any longer.
Thanks for your help!

I eat oat bran sesame sticks once in a while when I have a real craving. Its made with non white flour. I known I shouldn’t but I lost 4 pounds last week even if I did eat some. I get too bored eating only veggies, fruits and nuts on snacks. Better than BBQ chips!

Hi Vic,
Great idea’s. I love potato chips for snaking, going to replace it with apple slices next time I am craving something salty.
